Flying Saucer Review Vol 23 N 3 October 1977 FSR edition by Charles Bowen Religion Spirituality eBooks
The editorial reports that 30 years of UFOs had been commemorated in the New Scientist magazine by a debunking article by Ian Ridpath. (Ridpath would later claim that the Rendlesham Forest incident was a case of a misidentified lighthouse.)The Spanish Government Opens Its Files (an Air Force Lieutenant-General and Chief of Staff hands a newspaper reporter a 78 page dossier "containing the full documentation of the Spanish Government on no less than twelve of their most remarkable UFO cases"), Canary Islands Landing: Occupants Reported (summarised account of official Spanish report, a photo taken appears on the cover of this issue of Flying Saucer Review), UFOs Over Bridlington Factories (an afternoon sighting, eyewitness had subsequent throat problems, her pet dog would not go near her for three days), Talks with Betty Hill part 2 - The Things That Happen Around Her (including mystery helicopters, reprinted in Berthold Schwarz's interesting book UFO Dynamics), Kentucky Close Encounter (curious abduction case, involving missing time and hypnosis to retrieve memories, where a late journey home was interrupted and the abductee had an encounter with apparently sentient machines, his car's electrical system developed a fault the following day), Alarming Journey to Lambourn (car chased by UFO), Spies in the Supernumerary Attic? (mysterious beings seen during an evening in Portugal, followed by strange dreams then a 5am UFO sighting), Postscript to the Nemingha Case (an incident involving a strange fireball), The Car That Disppeared (UFO witness sees strange men parked in a black Jaguar outside his home for several nights in succession, police officers approach the car one day and it abruptly vanished), Encounter at Burringham (UFO and accompanying spinning "greyish black cloud of amorphous shape", concurrent with a late night/early morning major Air Force exercise"), Spherical Phenomenon at Waltham Abbey (Andrew Collins investigates a UFO that reportedly flooded a lounge with "a blood red and vivid green light").
The World Round-Up features another UFO case, involving a UFO chasing a car down Forest Road, Hainault, plus details of a "ghost ship" UFO, picked up by "powerful radar scanners in the Pacific during a training exercise." Meanwhile, in Brazil, there were several reports, and some of the population were fearful as they knew "that there have been cases in which people have been badly burned by UFOs."
In its early days Flying Saucer Review conveyed the attitude that UFOs were associated with benevolent space brothers who were coming to assist humanity. Certainly by 1977 this was no longer the case.
